Responsive web design – what is it?

Responsive Web Design (RWD) provides an optimal viewing experience — easy reading and navigation with a minimum of resizing, panning, and scrolling—across a wide range of devices (from desktop computer monitors to mobile phones).

So one single web site has the ability to dynamically reconfigure its layout, navigation, content and images based on the size and orientation of the user’s display and the browser on which it is presented.

More and more users depend on mobile devices to surf the web and because of this websites should be created so that they are user friendly despite the device being used. With responsive web design it is easy to read and navigate sites with the minimum of resizing and scrolling and this will in time increase the number of users to the mobile site which has the knock on effect of increasing leads and sales.

Cross-platform support is no longer just for those with huge budgets and wide margins of error. It is quickly becoming a necessity and an integral part of most Web strategies.
